Joseph D. Ennen, Chief Executive Officer

Joseph D. Ennen was appointed as the Company’s Chief Executive Officer and as a director of the Company on April 1, 2019. Mr. Ennen joined the Company from Columbus Manufacturing, a food processing company specializing in artisanal salami and other prepared delicatessen meats, where he served as President and CEO from early 2015 until its sale to Hormel Foods in December 2017. Before joining Columbus Manufacturing, Mr. Ennen was Senior Vice President and General Manager of Own Brands at Safeway, Inc., a leading supermarket chain, from 2009-2015. Prior to Safeway, Mr. Ennen spent four years as an executive at Pepsico/Frito Lay Division, including Group Vice President, Innovation and Vice President Marketing, Core Brands. Previously, Mr. Ennen held various leadership roles and general management, marketing and finance positions with ConAgra Foods, Kellogg’s Company and General Mills.

Mr. Ennen graduated from the University of Minnesota with a Bachelor of Science degree in business (Finance and Marketing majors) and an MBA (with concentrations in Marketing and Corporate Strategy) from the University of Michigan.

Scott Huckins, Chief Financial Officer

Scott Huckins was appointed as the Company’s Chief Finance Office in September 2019. Mr. Huckins previously spent 3 years as CFO of Claire’s Stores Inc., where he led the company’s recapitalization and change of ownership, implemented a series of large cost reduction initiatives, and actively managed the company’s cash flow and working capital. Prior to Claire’s, Mr. Huckins was the VP-Treasurer and President of Sears Re, a captive reinsurance company operating in Bermuda. At Sears, Mr. Huckins led a series of large financing transactions, managed the company’s liquidity, along with rating agency and banking relationships. At RSC Holdings, an equipment rental company, Scott was VP-Treasury, Tax, and Investor relations. While at RSC, he led the recapitalization of the company, which was ultimately sold to United Rentals.

Mr. Huckins earned a Master of Business Administration (with concentrations in Finance and Management Strategy) from Northwestern University and holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Finance from Arizona State University.

Jill Barnett, Chief Administrative Officer

Jill Barnett serves as Chief Administrative Officer and is responsible for human capital and the legal affairs of the company. Prior to joining SunOpta in July 2014, Ms. Barnett spent more than a decade as in-house counsel for Best Buy, the world’s largest consumer electronics retailer, where she provided legal support to various areas of the business, including Best Buy’s global sourcing and exclusive brands business. Ms. Barnett received her undergraduate degree from University of North Carolina at Greensboro and her J.D. from William Mitchell College of Law.

Rob Duchscher, Chief Information Officer

Rob Duchscher serves as Chief Information Officer. Rob brings 30+ years of experience in the areas of Software Engineering and Information Technology. Of those 30+ years, 17 years were spent in Industrial Process Control and Transportation Logistics. Most recently, he served as CIO at Starkey Hearing Technologies where he led the transformation of both the Information Technology and Software Engineering Departments. He holds a BS degree in Computer Science.

David Largey, Chief Quality Officer

David Largey joined SunOpta as Senior Vice President, Chief Quality Officer in May 2017. He has been in Quality and Food Safety in the food, active nutrition and dietary supplement industry over 25+ years. Before coming to SunOpta, Dave worked for The Nature’s Bounty Company as Vice President – Global Quality. At Nature’s Bounty, he was responsible for ensuring product quality and safety across the company’s global supply chain.

Prior to joining Nature’s Bounty, he was Director of Quality and Food Safety Global Meal Solutions at Barilla America where he was responsible for emerging markets and North America. Dave also worked as the Director of the Global Quality Center of Excellence at Wm. Wrigley Jr. Company where he developed systems and processes for global vendor assurance, consumer feedback, laboratory services, crisis and specifications management.

Dave began his career with Campbell Soup Company, where he had the opportunity to execute multiple technical roles in manufacturing, regional and corporate R&D and Quality functions in several locations in North America and Europe.

Dave earned a B.A. in Biology from Rollins College in Winter Park, Florida. He is an ASQ-Certified Quality Auditor, LRQA - ISO 9001 Assessor and obtained statistical methods and applications training from the University of Tennessee.

Christopher Whitehair, SVP, Supply Chain

Chris Whitehair joined SunOpta in April 2017 as Senior Vice President of Global Supply Chain. Prior to SunOpta, Mr. Whitehair was Senior Vice President of Operations for Private Brands at Treehouse Foods from February 2016 until April 2017. Before joining Treehouse, Mr. Whitehair spent 16 years with ConAgra Foods as Vice President of Supply Chain & Operations for the Snack, Private Label and International Divisions. Mr. Whitehair spent 5 years with Quaker Oats in Plant Management roles, and he started his career with General Mills in their Cereal Division.

Mr. Whitehair graduated from Kansas State University with a BS in Milling Science.

Barend Reijn, GM, Healthy Fruit

Barend Reijn was appointed as the General Manager, Healthy Fruit in September 2019. Barend brings a wealth of fruit experience to this role having spent the last 15 years working for Tradin’s fruit division in the US and Europe. In his most recent role, Barend was the head of fruit sourcing and trading for Tradin US, where he oversaw the growth of the business, including the development of an expansive supplier base and over 200 external customers.

Originally from the Netherlands, Barend has a degree in Food & Business and an MBA from Rotterdam School of Management, part of Erasmus University.

Michael Buick, GM, Beverage and Snacks

Michael Buick is the Senior Vice President and General Manager of Healthy Beverage and Healthy Snacks in addition to leading the Raw Material Sourcing and Supply business. Prior to joining SunOpta in February 2017, Mr. Buick was the General Manager of the Bars and Trail Mix business at TreeHouse Foods. Prior to TreeHouse Foods, Mr. Buick spent 10 years at ConAgra Foods in brand management roles across their consumer brand and private label businesses. Previously, Mr. Buick held leadership roles in marketing and finance with Kimberly-Clark and Bank of America.

Mr. Buick earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Finance from the University of North Carolina Charlotte and an MBA (with a concentration in marketing) from The Ohio State University.

Gerard Versteegh, GM, Tradin

Mr. Versteegh is the President of International Sourcing & Supply. Gerard joined SunOpta in April 2008 as President and co-founder of Tradin Organic Agriculture. Gerard has 30 years of expertise in the global sourcing of organic raw materials in a broad range of categories.
