SunOpta Announces New Contracts for Opta Minerals Magnesium Desulfurization Products

TORONTO--March 9, 2007--SunOpta Inc. (SunOpta or the Company) (Nasdaq:STKL) (TSX:SOY) today announced two new contracts for a total of approximately $12,000,000 covering the supply of magnesium desulfurization products to two major integrated steel mills in Canada and the US. These contracts are renewable and are expected to grow each year.

Opta also announced that it will commence commercial production of these products in the 2nd quarter at the Waterdown, Ontario facility. This expansion will give Opta three facilities focused on the production of magnesium based reagents and slag conditioners located in Indiana, Ontario and Michigan.
